System cylinders

  • Thermal storage for your heat pump

Huddling up together at home is nice – but it shouldn’t be due to a lack of space. You can make the best use of the space you have available by combining a DHW cylinder and buffer cylinder in one appliance.

    Use heat even more efficiently

If you rely on environmental or solar energy to heat your home and domestic hot water, thermal stores are a necessity in many cases. After all, you don’t always need heat at the time it’s produced. The appliances store heat so that you always have enough hot water for the bathroom or kitchen, for example. Bolstering the heating system with a buffer cylinder can also be useful.

No matter what your application or space requirement, we can provide you with the right cylinder models. Find a suitable cylinder now and combine it with your heat pump or solar thermal system.

    Explained in brief

    The various types of cylinder

    Buffer cylinders

They store energy as part of the heating system, i.e. the heating system is directly integrated here. Typically, this type of thermal store is used primarily with heat pumps. These kinds of appliances store heating water by the hour or day. As a result, the heat generator has to work less often. STIEBEL ELTRON buffer cylinders are available as wall mounted or floorstanding appliances with a storage volume of 100 to 1500 litres.

    DHW cylinders

These cylinders are used for storing domestic hot water. They are usually thermally insulated and are heated either directly or indirectly by a heat generator. The maximum temperature is 90 °C. DHW cylinders from STIEBEL ELTRON are high quality enamelled steel cylinders that offer a storage volume of 150 to 1000 litres.

    Integral cylinders

The integral cylinder combines a DHW cylinder with a connection to the heating system. A buffer cylinder may also be included here depending on the version. The integral hydraulic components make system integration easy. A floor mounted version of this cylinder can be set up to save space.

    Instantaneous water cylinders

This appliance provides a decentralised hot water supply in the bathroom. Good insulation of the cylinder is a crucial factor here too. The models from STIEBEL ELTRON combine two functions: buffer storage and DHW heating using the instantaneous water heating principle. The storage capacity ranges from 600 to 1500 litres.

    Choosing the right cylinder

Take the heat source into account

Most system cylinders are designed to be combined with a heat pump. Other models are available, however, that can be used in conjunction with oil or gas heating.

    Select the right size

The size of the cylinder has a significant impact on its efficiency. If you opt for a smaller model, the heat generator needs to operate at full load in short intervals, which uses a lot of energy. If the cylinder is oversized, you will have unnecessarily high standby energy losses.

    Decide where to install

The ideal, all-round efficient solution is to install both a buffer cylinder and a DHW cylinder. If there isn’t enough space in your home to accommodate the two appliances separately, STIEBEL ELTRON has the answer – our integral cylinders are compact units that house both types of cylinders in one casing.
